I believe it was near the beginning of last spring that Natalie first asked me if I wanted to write something like this with her. At the time the presidential election was looming, we both seemed to be getting pestered by pushy religious folk, and a lot was happening all around the world. The topics we wanted to write about seemed more than plentiful. The original plan was to make Riot! in print form. Unfortunately the time and effort required to get enough writing together, printed, and distributed in a quick enough time to make it still relevant just didn’t work with our schedules. So Riot! was set aside. But we never stopped talking about the things that we would be writing about in it had we gone through with the idea. So a few weeks ago I brought the idea back up to Natalie. But instead of doing it in print form it seemed like it would be far more feasible to do digitally. It’s not the ideal way we’d like to do it, but at least this way it’s getting done.

We’d also like to state right from the start that since we both have minds of our own, Riot! may not present one single view on everything all of the time. We may at times disagree on something. Perhaps just on minor details, perhaps we may completely contradict each other at times. More than likely it won’t happen often, as we do more often than not see eye to eye, but there’s always a chance. We don’t have a problem with this, and hope you don’t either. That’s the point. Riot! isn’t here to present the absolute truth. Its purpose, as we see it anyway, is to introduce ideas and encourage thought. Blindly following what anyone says, even one of us, is useless and, ultimately, just breeds another mindless member of the herd.

So that’s the story behind the formation of Riot!. Perhaps some day it will emerge in it’s intended print form, but for now we hope you can enjoy it as it is. As long as you’re thinking we’re satisfied.
